The Sahara is the largest hot air desert the world and it is a must place to visit while in Morocco. You will never forget the experience of spending a night in the Sahara desert.
I highly recommend visiting Sahara with a shared 3 days/2 night tour from Marrakech. Sahara desert is far and the most impressive sand dunes are in Merzouga that can only be reached by 3 days tour. On the way, you will visit other rural Berber villages and will get less tired while driving through the High Atlas Mountains.

- 2 dinners / 2 breakfast
- 2 nights at the hotel and a nomad tent camp
- riding a camel (sunset/sunrise)

1st day (6 hours of driving)
Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Gorges of Dadès
In the morning, at 7 pm, the tour bus will pick you from Marrakech. You will head towards Ouarzazate through the twisty road of High Atlas mountains. First stop is in UNESCO World Heritage site listed Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, dating to the 12th Century and one of the most iconic Morocco’s monuments.
Many Hollywood and international films were shot in Ait Ben Haddou, such as Gladiator, Babel, The Mummy, Kingdom of Heaven, Lawrence of Arabia, Alexander, Prince of Persia or Game of Thrones.
After the lunch break in the nearby Ourzazate town, you will continue the trip through the Valley of Roses. The first day of the tour will finish in the small hotel, located in the Dades gorges Valley. The traditional Moroccan dinner will crown the day as well as a mesmerizing scenery of the Dades valley.
2nd day (4,30 hours of driving)
Gorges du Dadès – Todra – Merzouga
Good morning! After a great night sleep and breakfast in the Dades Valley, you will visit Tinghir city. There, a local guide will show around and will invite to the traditional Berber carpet-maker studio. Later, you will have a walk at the Todra Gorge and after a great lunch in a local restaurant, continue the trip to the desert camp in Merzouga, passing the impressive Todra gorges.
In Merzouga, you will be met by the camels and enjoy a 1.30 hour sunset ride deep to the Merzouga desert. In the campsite, local Berbers will wait for you with a dinner, songs and stories about life in the desert. And here comes the best part of the trip – hundreds of stars in the sand dunes of Merzouga.
3rd day (8.30 hours of driving)
You will leave the camp in Merzouga desert early morning, after taking a typical Berber breakfast. The sunrise will be greeted by the ride on the camels and on the way to Marrakech you will stop in few interesting places, as well in Ouarzazate for a lunch.
