full itinerary:
A visit to the Berber village in Morocco is one of the most memorable experiences. Your journey will start in the morning; the pick up will be from your hotel in Marrakech at 9 am. To reach the village, it’s around 2.5 hour’s drive. The road to Said’s home is scenic. You will drive through the beautiful and twisty High Atlas mountain road, will pass the artificial Ouirgan lake, and leave many local villages behind.
At the village, Said or his uncle Mohamed will invite you to their home, an authentic Berber house. There, you will experience the daily life of Said’s family. His mother&sisters until now are making bread and tea in an old kitchen room with a wood-fired clay oven. This room is handy in cold winter when all the family is gathering around the fireplace.
After breakfast, Said will invite you to discover his neighbourhood by walking down the river, and passing local communities. You will be introduced to everyday rural life: how locals make olive oil, harvest olives, etc. After the walk, your trip will continue by car to the nearby Tinmel mosque – one of the two mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims. Tinmel mosque is a hidden gem and not very well known in Morocco. Before heading back to Said’s home, you will visit another rural village, where locals make a living from making pottery.
For a late lunch, Said’s family will prepare you a generous table with tagine, couscous and deserts. After lunch, you will chill in the house and enjoy nature. Come back to Marrakech around 5-6 p.m.
p.s. Cosy bedrooms on the second floor are rented for travellers (there is hot water, a standard shower, a toilet etc.). If you want to spend a night there, contact for more info.
